A Nutanix Case Study
The Regina Catholic School Division, which serves 11,100 K–12 students across 29 schools in Saskatchewan, faced an aging 3‑tier VMware and IBM SAN environment with disk failures, growing space and compute constraints, and slow tape-based backups that hampered recovery and disaster‑recovery plans. IT needed more capacity, faster restores, simpler management, and a cost‑effective way to add off‑site storage and compute.
The division deployed Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (NX‑3000 for production, NX‑1000 for DR) with Prism management and moved to Hyper‑V. The result was dramatically simpler operations and troubleshooting, much faster restores (from two days to about an hour), reduced admin effort (from one day/week to under an hour), a >15x smaller datacenter footprint and lower power, and an affordable secondary site plus disk‑based backups.
