A Nutanix Case Study
The City of Unley, a 40,000‑person local council near Adelaide, launched a "Digital Unley" initiative to modernize services and enable smart‑city projects, but its aging three‑tier infrastructure, limited budget and constrained IT team caused performance issues, downtime and restricted its ability to deliver reliable online services.
Unley moved to a Nutanix Enterprise Cloud HCI, migrating nearly all applications to two clusters (~100 VMs) with Metro Availability for phone‑system DR, maintaining on‑prem security and VMware compatibility. The transformation cut ten racks to a quarter rack, reduced power and cooling costs by about 70% (saving tens of thousands of dollars and ~24,000 kg CO2/year), halved consultant spending, simplified administration, and freed IT to focus on strategic digital services.
