A Nutanix Case Study
Hokuhoku Financial Group — comprising Hokuriku Bank, Hokkaido Bank and Hokugin Software — needed to consolidate and modernize its IT infrastructure across a wide geographic area (banks are 790 km apart) to improve operational efficiency and realize group synergies. Aging, siloed virtualization and costly, complex refresh cycles for servers, storage and networking made it difficult to scale VDI and server workloads and to standardize operations across the two banks.
The group selected the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform (NX‑3000 and NX‑8000) to converge server and VDI infrastructure (Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp on VMware ESXi), deploying 71 nodes and supporting about 9,000 VDI clients — the largest Nutanix deployment in Japan at the time. The result was faster, simplified deployments and upgrades, stronger business-continuity options, an expected ~20% long-term reduction in infrastructure and maintenance costs, and freed engineering resources to focus on revenue-driving services.
