Case Study: Houston Healthcare achieves rapid physician access to patient data and simplified VDI management with Nutanix

Nutanix Provides Rx for VDI Ailments at Houston Healthcare

Houston Healthcare, a regional health system serving Houston County, Georgia since the 1950s, struggled with a PC‑based infrastructure that left physicians waiting 45–90 seconds to log in and spending an estimated 20 minutes per day just accessing desktops; clinicians also couldn’t easily use iOS devices during a transition to a new EMR, and a prior VDI attempt had failed due to inadequate infrastructure.

The organization deployed Nutanix’s Xtreme Computing Platform (converged compute, storage and networking) after a fast proof‑of‑concept; Nutanix enabled rapid VDI rollout (150 desktops to date, 350 planned), initial logins of ~20 seconds and subsequent logins under 8 seconds, mobile access from iPhones/iPads, dramatically shortened patch/upgrade windows from days to ~20–30 minutes with no downtime, simplified management, lower cost versus a traditional SAN, and strong vendor support.
