Case Study: Rakuten Europe Bank achieves rapid, compliant, cloud-scale banking with Nutanix

A Nutanix Case Study

Preview of the Rakuten Europe Bank Case Study

Nutanix Provides Rakuten Europe Bank With Secure, Scalable And Easy To Manage IT Infrastructure For Rapid Entry Into Highly Regulated Financial Market

Rakuten Europe Bank, a Luxembourg‑based fintech offshoot of Japan’s Rakuten, set out to bring its eCommerce payment and banking services to European businesses. Faced with strict local regulations that barred public cloud use, the bank needed an on‑premises private cloud that delivered public‑cloud scalability, high availability and robust disaster recovery while remaining simple enough for a small, non‑specialist operations team.

Rakuten implemented Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure with Prism, Nutanix Kubernetes Engine and later the AHV hypervisor across two datacentres, with synchronous replication and Terraform integration for DevSecOps automation. The deployment enabled fast pilot migrations, regulator‑verified failover in under two hours, reduced management overhead and licensing costs, halved daily close‑of‑business times, and now supports 300+ VMs and eight Kubernetes clusters while paving the way for hybrid dev/test and future DBaaS initiatives.
