Nutanix Has It All – Vitacost.com Switches to Nutanix for VDI

Vitacost.com, a leading online retailer with ~800 employees and a large customer service operation, faced severe VDI performance and capacity problems on legacy Dell servers and EMC SAN. Virtual desktops were slow and unresponsive, image recomposes took all night, resources were maxed out and no more desktops or storage could be added—forcing IT to find a dedicated, high-performance and cost-effective VDI platform quickly.

Vitacost deployed a 4-node Nutanix NX‑3000 appliance running VMware Horizon View, hosting ~140 virtual desktops. The switch delivered near-zero disk latency and much faster, more responsive desktops; recomposes dropped from ~12 hours to <1 hour (90% faster); CAPEX fell by ~$30,000; rack space shrank from 36U to 2U (94% reduction); uptime has been 100%; and management, scalability and DR readiness all improved with single-vendor support.
