Freeport-McMoRan, a global mining company, needed a more reliable way to run mission-critical safety, operational, and business applications across remote sites with limited connectivity. Its legacy Cisco UCS and NetApp FlexPod environment was complex to deploy and maintain, especially in hard-to-reach mining regions, and it also needed better support for remote engineers using demanding CAD tools.

Nutanix helped Freeport-McMoRan modernize with the Nutanix Cloud Platform and Frame on Azure, deployed on more than 270 Nutanix nodes. The result was simpler management, stronger availability, improved security, and better remote access for engineers; site IT staffing needs were cut in half, and the company could spin up 64-core cloud machines in a day instead of waiting five months for on-prem infrastructure.
