A Nutanix Case Study
Forestry & Land Scotland, a newly devolved Scottish government agency, needed to quickly modernize an inherited legacy on-premises datacenter while preparing to move to the cloud under the Scottish government’s cloud-first policy. The organization had uncertain short-term capacity needs, limited specialist IT skills, and a fixed deadline to vacate its datacenter, so it turned to Nutanix and the Nutanix Cloud Platform, including AHV virtualization.
Nutanix implemented a hyperconverged infrastructure for about 300 virtual machines and later used Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) on Microsoft Azure to extend the datacenter to public cloud without re-coding applications. The result was easier management, instant scalability, better performance, a smaller physical footprint, and lower power and cooling needs. A proof of concept with production workloads showed FLS could migrate without disruption and avoid the cost and effort of app refactoring and new specialist skills.
