Museum with a mission to inspire moves forward with Nutanix

The Science Museum Group (SMG), a UK network of five publicly funded museums serving millions of physical and online visitors, needed to modernize its on‑premise infrastructure as part of a wider hybrid cloud strategy. Its legacy environment—end‑of‑life servers and fragmented virtualization spread across seven locations—was hard to manage, lacked scalability and resiliency, and relied on tape and disk backups that could not meet disaster‑recovery or availability requirements.

SMG consolidated compute and storage into a Nutanix Enterprise Cloud (AHV, Prism) on Lenovo ThinkAgile HX hardware, delivered with implementation support from Eurotech, with a primary co‑location site, a scaled replica for continuity, and small edge platforms at museums. About 140 workloads were migrated in ten weeks, delivering 100% on‑prem virtualization, near‑90% savings on virtualization licensing, roughly 80% reduction in rack space and power, rapid automated disaster recovery (with replicated protection domains and offsite backups to AWS), and centralized management that freed the team to focus on digital services and growth.
