Mitsui Chemicals Launches Nutanix-Based “Next-Generation Factory DX Infrastructure” to Enable Data-Driven Business

Mitsui Chemicals, a leading Japanese chemical company pursuing its “VISION 2030” digital transformation, faced a surge of sensor and IoT data from factories that public cloud alone could not handle. Regulatory requirements to keep certain data in Japan, increased edge processing needs, network latency and disruptions (exacerbated by past flooding), and the risks of a centralized IT model made improving business continuity and local data handling urgent priorities.

The company deployed the Nutanix Cloud Platform (including Nutanix Files, AOS/AHV, Prism, Karbon and related services) at major factories and a research center to enable edge preprocessing, local file servers and replicated backups to the datacenter. This decentralized HCI approach delivered real-time analysis at each site, optimized production line operations, and ensured access to critical files during network outages—while laying the groundwork for cloud tiering and simplified data pipelines with Nutanix Objects and Karbon.
