A Nutanix Case Study
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a UK healthcare provider with about 5,500 staff and 540 beds, needed to replace an ageing three‑tier IT estate while staying within tight public‑sector budgets and rolling out a new electronic patient record and archive. The trust’s separate NetApp storage, HPE compute and Cisco networking were costly and hard to manage, and adding SSDs or scaling the environment threatened to increase admin and maintenance burdens.
Working with partner Epaton, Mid Cheshire consolidated its production workloads onto Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure with AHV across 22 nodes in two active datacentres (with Prism Central and Rubrik integration), replacing the legacy stack with a single, software‑driven platform. The move cut administration, lowered year‑on‑year maintenance costs, reduced power and cooling (an 8U rack replaced the old kit), and delivered one‑click access to patient records; the trust now runs a slimmer IT team, is moving from VMware to AHV for further savings, and can easily explore cloud and advanced automation/security tools from the Nutanix ecosystem.
