A Nutanix Case Study
The Maryland Lottery, an independent agency of the State of Maryland, faced challenges with its aging, disparate IT infrastructure based on IBM BladeServers and NetApp storage. The complex environment was difficult to manage, ran low on capacity, and struggled to meet stringent regulatory and security needs, particularly for its critical Internal Control System (ICS). To modernize, the Lottery turned to Nutanix and its Enterprise Cloud platform.
Nutanix provided a hyperconverged infrastructure solution, consolidating servers, storage, and networking into a single, manageable private cloud. The implementation included the AHV hypervisor, Prism Pro management, and Xi Frame for desktop-as-a-service. The results were dramatic: deployment time for new infrastructure dropped 95% from two weeks to under four hours, operational management overhead was cut in half, and VM restore times improved from days to minutes. Most notably, Nutanix enabled the Lottery to securely virtualize its ICS and rapidly deploy teleworking capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
