A Nutanix Case Study
The Maryland Lottery, a state government agency that runs games like Powerball and Mega Millions, was struggling with an aging, heterogeneous IT environment—IBM BladeCenter servers, NetApp storage and a traditional three‑tier architecture—that supported accounting, web, database and backup systems. The complexity and time required to manage disparate servers and storage made a refresh necessary.
The Lottery adopted the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud (two clusters for production and DR) with Prism Pro, Metro Availability and Nutanix Xpress/AHV for its internal control system, delivering rapid, measurable gains: deployment time dropped from more than two weeks to under four hours, three server racks were consolidated to 6U, management effort was cut by about half, user performance roughly doubled, VM restores went from days to minutes, and hourly replication enabled fast disaster recovery—along with improved operational visibility and vendor support.
