LKAB, a Swedish mining company operating Europe’s deepest iron ore mine, needed a more scalable and sustainable IT environment as its traditional servers, storage, and later converged infrastructure struggled to keep up with growing demands. The company was running short on storage, facing added network complexity, and needed better continuity for remote mine and plant operations, so it turned to Nutanix.

Nutanix implemented a hyperconverged infrastructure platform that gave LKAB centralized management, cloud-like scalability, and flexible hybrid-cloud options without vendor lock-in. The solution quickly exceeded expectations and was expanded from test use into production; today LKAB runs four Nutanix clusters supporting 1,076 virtual machines and 170 TB of storage, while reducing IT management complexity and overhead.
