Kitami Institute of Technology Integrates the Management of Three Universities using Nutanix

Kitami Institute of Technology led an effort to integrate IT management across three universities (Kitami, Otaru, and Obihiro) ahead of their organizational consolidation. The challenge was to standardize and unify network, ICT, authentication, VDI and business systems to support distance education, open innovation, and a future-proof, scalable platform for users across all campuses.

They implemented the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCI, Nutanix Cloud Manager, and Unified Storage) as a private HCI-based cloud—initially on VMware with plans to migrate to AHV—consolidating 240 virtual servers and deploying authentication, logging, file storage and self-service capabilities. This delivered automated, optimized resource allocation, improved operational efficiency and a common ICT foundation that enables cross-university collaboration, scalable expansion, and future DR and networking upgrades.
