A Nutanix Case Study
Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College (JCC) in Birmingham, UK, educates about 1,600–1,700 students and prides itself on a technology‑focused campus. Its aging, complex stack—Cisco networking, HP blade servers and an EMC SAN—was degrading SQL and Exchange performance and placing heavy operational demands on a small IT team responsible for roughly 1,050 student and staff devices, so the college sought a simpler, more agile infrastructure.
JCC deployed the Nutanix NX-3000 Virtual Computing Platform to consolidate 32 server VMs and host all mission‑critical workloads (including a 3,000‑user Exchange environment and large SQL/MySQL apps). Results included a >95% improvement in VM provisioning time (from ~12 hours to <1), a 90% reduction in rack space (20U to 2U), ~30% lower CAPEX, faster log‑ons and noticeably better end‑user experience, plus readiness for future Hyper‑V and VDI deployments.
