IIJ Utilizes Nutanix as Managed VPN Virtualization Platform for Multi-Site WAN

Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) needed a way to build custom managed VPN environments for customers whose requirements could not be met by its standard IIJ GIO service. The challenge was supporting real-time communications across tens of thousands of locations, distributing large volumes of data weekly, and ensuring strong redundancy and fault tolerance.

IIJ implemented Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS, including Nutanix AOS, Prism, and support from a Nutanix Technical Account Manager, to create a scalable virtual network platform with VPN functionality. With Nutanix, IIJ now runs about 50 virtual machines on 10 physical nodes, has achieved stable operation with no major issues or customer complaints, and can operate the service as part of its standard managed offering while expanding its service menu.
