How Sumter County LeapFrogged Into the Future with Nutanix

Sumter County, South Carolina—a mid-sized jurisdiction that includes Shaw Air Force Base—faced an “IT slump” of aging, unscalable hardware, sluggish applications and processes, and a conservative culture that resisted change. With only $200,000 to serve 107,000 residents, storage and compute capacity were inadequate and routine tasks were slow and frustrating for staff across departments.

Moving to Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure replaced disparate servers and SANs with three‑node clusters managed from a single pane of glass, at roughly one‑third the cost and with three times the storage and compute. The result: dramatic speed and reliability gains (logins measured in seconds, much faster records retrieval for the Sheriff’s Office), built‑in redundancy and high availability, and a far simpler, easier‑to‑manage environment that will scale with future needs.
