Harris County, Texas Office of the District Attorney Moves to Nutanix Acropolis

Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which serves more than four million residents and handles roughly 110,000 criminal cases a year, faced aging rack-mounted servers and a legacy SAN that made provisioning VMs slow and limited plans to deploy Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop and upgrade to Exchange 2016. The IT team needed a higher-performance, more manageable platform that could support virtual desktops, SQL/Exchange workloads and large archival stores like police body-camera video.

They deployed Dell XC Series appliances powered by Nutanix Acropolis and managed with Nutanix Prism, migrating production workloads to a hyperconverged cluster and adding nodes for DR. The move cut datacenter space from 84 RU to 16 RU (about an 80% reduction), simplified management with a single pane of glass and vendor support, improved performance for SQL, Exchange and VDI, and enabled the planned rollout of Citrix and police video archiving while preparing to adopt Nutanix AHV to reduce hypervisor costs.
