Guilsborough School Upgrades to Nutanix for a Fast, Scalable, Reliable Virtual Environment

Guilsborough School, a 1,340‑student co‑educational academy in Northamptonshire and a specialist technology college, saw its servers and SAN storage overwhelmed as school‑issued netbooks and BYOD devices grew from about 700 to 3,000 and faculty adopted more online applications. The existing partially virtualized environment hit I/O bottlenecks and could not meet the school’s needs for higher performance, scalability and redundancy to support VDI, online testing and future growth.

The school replaced 11 servers and its SAN with a 3‑node Nutanix NX‑2350 converged platform, which was installed in hours and migrated in under two days. The new environment runs 30 VMs (including heavy workloads such as SharePoint and Exchange), delivered solid performance with plenty of headroom, cut rack space by 60–75%, sped up development and maintenance, and remained resilient through a datacenter flood — backed by responsive Nutanix support.
