A Nutanix Case Study
Gifu Prefectural Government needed to rapidly expand a small teleworking setup into a secure, cost‑effective system for over 1,400 employees during the COVID‑19 pandemic. Legacy SAN/NAS architectures required specialist skills, made storage expansion and BCP planning difficult, and forced insecure file sharing practices (USB drives), so the prefecture sought a scalable, easy‑to‑manage platform that supported remote access and improved security.
The prefecture deployed Nutanix Cloud Platform (AOS, Prism, Files) with VMware Horizon and NVIDIA vGPU to deliver three telework modes (VDI, remote desktop via LGWAN, and a mobile mail/scheduling option) over a closed network. The distributed HCI removed vendor lock‑in, simplified operations and BCP, separated hardware renewal from software upgrades, and cut telework costs to about one‑eighth while supporting 1,400+ users; Nutanix Files eliminated USB use, improving data sharing and security.
