ENERCALC, founded in 1983, is a long-standing provider of structural and civil engineering software whose flagship Structural Engineering Library is widely used in the US. As customers demanded access from any device without installation and the flexibility of subscription billing, ENERCALC’s earlier attempts at a thin-client solution (a 1999 in‑house system and a 2016 implementation using third‑party tools) proved costly to operate and maintain, requiring custom launchers, heavy infrastructure management, and complex scaling, backup, and security work.

ENERCALC migrated its online offering to Nutanix Xi Frame, installing the application in a Frame sandbox and rolling it out with minimal code changes. The browser-based, one‑VM‑per‑user architecture provided zero‑install access, predictable per‑user performance, automated scaling, granular usage billing, and improved security, enabling SaaS subscription models, reducing infrastructure overhead, and delivering a smoother experience that boosted customer satisfaction and contributed to the company’s bottom line.
