Doctors’ Center Hospitals of Puerto Rico Standardizes on Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform

Doctors’ Center Hospital, a healthcare provider operating four hospitals and two clinics across Puerto Rico, needed to improve MEDITECH EHR performance while simplifying IT for a small team and controlling high WAN and infrastructure costs. The organization had outgrown its legacy DAS/NAS environment, and adding bandwidth had not solved application latency issues. Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform was selected to support its clinical systems and virtualization needs.

Nutanix implemented an NX-3460 system with Nutanix Prism management, running the MEDITECH EHR platform and VMware Horizon View VDI. The result was lower MEDITECH latency, consistently below 3–5 milliseconds, easier centralized administration, and a reduced datacenter footprint from 8U to 4U. Doctors’ Center Hospital also reported the Nutanix solution was about one-third the cost of the Cisco/EMC alternative, while enabling secure desktop mobility for physicians.
