A Nutanix Case Study
Delaware Valley Community Health, Inc. (DVCH), a community-focused healthcare provider, faced severe performance issues with its aging database infrastructure, which supported critical applications like its electronic medical records system. With a seven-year-old SQL cluster at risk of crashing and login times averaging nearly three minutes, the slow systems delayed patient care and hampered provider efficiency. To support expansion and improve performance, DVCH sought a new infrastructure solution from vendor Nutanix.
DVCH implemented a solution based on the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud, including Nutanix AHV and HYCU for backup, to create a modern, hyperconverged environment for its databases. The Nutanix solution dramatically improved performance, reducing EMR login times from 171 seconds to under 19 seconds and cutting prescription processing from minutes to 15 seconds. This enabled staff to see more patients per day. Furthermore, the agility of the Nutanix platform allowed DVCH to rapidly deploy a full telehealth solution during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling 75% of its workforce to operate remotely without layoffs. Backup times for a 1.2TB database fell from 4 hours to 30 minutes, and disaster recovery time improved from up to 48 hours to just 6 minutes.
