Coterra Energy Takes Exploration Steps Ahead with Nutanix

Coterra Energy, a Houston-based diversified energy company operating across Texas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, faced the challenge of consolidating two large companies’ IT environments after a 2021 merger. With an aggressive 18‑month timeline to move into new offices, build a data center and integrate networks, Coterra also needed an isolated, highly available environment for critical SCADA systems and a standardized platform to consolidate GIS and VDI workloads.

Coterra deployed the Nutanix Cloud Platform (AHV, Prism, Nutanix Move) to migrate legacy workloads, speed cutovers and standardize operations across sites. Nutanix Move minimized downtime during migrations, Prism delivered unified management, and Nutanix Professional Services streamlined remote deployments—resulting in improved reliability (automatic VM recoveries after outages), greater administrator agility, better GIS and Citrix VDI performance for field and office users, and a roadmap for orchestrated DR and expanded AHV use to reduce licensing costs.
