A Nutanix Case Study
Cooperative Bank of Oromia (COOP) is a leading Ethiopian financial institution that needed to modernise its IT to support a surge in digital transactions and shifting customer demand away from branch visits. Its legacy, siloed systems struggled with scalability, efficiency, and disaster recovery, so the bank sought a hyper‑converged infrastructure partner to consolidate operations and enable new digital services.
COOP chose Nutanix and deployed a Nutanix HCI environment—starting with 14 nodes across two sites and growing to roughly 31 nodes (about 40–45% of its infrastructure)—to host services like Michu and COOPay‑Ebirr, streamline data‑centre management, and improve disaster recovery. The implementation delivered rapid service rollout, a >40% reduction in IT costs, stronger DR and availability, greater scalability and operational efficiency, and a significant surge in digital transactions, positioning COOP as a digital banking leader in Ethiopia.
