Claranet Switches to Nutanix for Hosting Managed Services

Claranet, a leading European web hosting and managed services provider with 20 datacenters and 700 employees, faced an end-of-life SAN storage environment in its France operations. Needing fast, flexible provisioning and better scalability for a multi-tenant VMware hosting environment, Claranet sought an alternative to a traditional SAN that would support many clients with minimal operational overhead.

Claranet deployed a 4-node Nutanix NX-3450 converged appliance (preloaded with VMware), which installed in hours and enabled migration of 140+ VMs from 12 Dell servers—about 15% of Claranet France’s workload—while removing Fibre Channel SAN gear and reducing datacenter footprint. The SAN-free platform delivered higher IOPS at lower cost, simplified administration, lower power use, and seamless incremental scaling; Claranet plans further migrations and tests of KVM workloads on Nutanix.
