Banca Popolare di Sondrio (SUISSE) SA, a Swiss retail bank supporting about 300 internal users, faced slow VMware Horizon virtual desktops, sluggish MS SQL performance and a complex, hard-to-scale three-tier infrastructure managed by a small IT team. The bank launched an infrastructure refresh to improve user experience, boost database performance and simplify operations.

The bank chose Nutanix’s hyperconverged Enterprise Cloud, deploying six Nutanix systems and consolidating VDI and SQL workloads on a single platform. Results included VDI login times dropping from 2–3 minutes to ~40 seconds, faster SQL queries, built-in high availability and cross-site replication, much simpler management (replacing disparate vendor stacks), a smaller datacenter footprint and easier, incremental scaling.
