BIDTravel, a South African travel management company serving corporate and leisure clients across nine legal entities, faced an aging three‑tier private cloud and rising reliability and outsourcing costs for its 300 on‑prem servers. After assessing public cloud options and cost constraints, BIDTravel chose a hyperconverged approach with Nutanix (initial deployment in 2018) and in 2024 undertook a full Nutanix upgrade and hypervisor migration to AHV to address scalability, management complexity and infrastructure failures.

Running its entire data estate on Nutanix (Cloud Infrastructure, Prism, AHV and Flow), BIDTravel migrated 80 servers in a month—95% automatically via Nutanix Move—with no downtime across all divisions. The new platform centralised management, cut specialist staffing from three to one, automated firmware upgrades, and reduced server provisioning from days to minutes, boosting agility, security and readiness for future initiatives like micro‑segmentation and GenAI.
