Australian Institute of Aboriginal Torres Strait Island Studies Digitises Cultural Artefacts with Nutanix

The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), which houses more than one million items documenting over 65,000 years of Indigenous history, needed a modern way to digitise and manage large volumes of cultural material—especially content created at remote locations—to make collections accessible to First Nations communities and the wider public.

AIATSIS partnered with Nutanix and Canberra-based integrator Qirx to deploy Nutanix AHV and Nutanix Kubernetes Engine, extending core data-centre performance to edge sites. The new platform enables remote management from Canberra, speeds data ingestion from days or weeks to minutes, improves analysis accuracy and efficiency, reduces operational overhead, and frees resources for further innovation and wider public access.
