Case Study: Arizona State University achieves 24x reduction in admin hours and improved application performance with Nutanix

A Nutanix Case Study

Preview of the Arizona State University Case Study

Arizona State University - Customer Case Study

Arizona State University, a large public research institution with multiple campuses, faced an aging three-tier infrastructure (NetApp storage, x86 servers, Citrix XenServer) that made 24x7 availability and coordinated maintenance across teams difficult. ASU also wanted to modernize its stack—moving to Microsoft Hyper‑V and enabling cloud-based disaster recovery—while improving performance for online courses and data-intensive academic applications.

ASU deployed Nutanix Enterprise Cloud software on roughly 50 Dell EMC XC appliances (40 already in production) with Nutanix Prism and Hyper‑V, migrating dev/QA first and then production and VDI workloads. The move delivered noticeably better application performance and reduced downtime, eliminated multi-team maintenance windows, cut upgrade admin hours by nearly 24x (one admin can now update the environment in 1–2 hours), improved capacity visibility, and enabled flexible DR options with Azure Site Recovery.
