Major European Telecommunications Suppling Company had piloted a successful mobile eCommerce app in small markets but needed to expand into much larger markets where peak transaction rates would easily exceed the ~10,000 transactions-per-second ceiling of their existing SQL appliance. To overcome that scalability limit while retaining SQL functionality, they turned to NuoDB and its cloud-native, scale-out SQL database.

NuoDB was deployed to provide elastic, data-center scale-out and cloud-friendly pricing, and the customer migrated the application unaided; a short tuning project produced performance beyond their previous appliance on comparable hardware. By addressing the 10,000 tps constraint and enabling economical scaling across data centers, NuoDB allowed the customer to move faster into larger markets with improved operational flexibility.
