CauseSquare, a mobile engagement platform for non-profits and community organizers, needed a database that could scale out horizontally, preserve ANSI SQL skills, and provide transactional consistency for donation processing. After reaching the limits of MySQL and ruling out NoSQL for its lack of ACID guarantees and higher development costs, CauseSquare chose NuoDB’s elastic SQL database to meet those requirements.

NuoDB delivered a distributed, two-layer SQL solution that separates transaction and storage layers for elastic in-memory scaling, continuous availability, ACID compliance and multi-tenancy. The migration from MySQL was smooth, saving development time and costs versus a NoSQL rewrite; today CauseSquare supports more than 100 organizations and thousands of users, has launched a crowdfunding module, and is planning international expansion and real-time analytics using NuoDB.
