The South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit needed a thorough and efficient method to identify cryptocurrency addresses and keys within seized digital evidence. To address this challenge, they partnered with Nuix.
The Unit created the Nuix Bitcoin Extractor, a scripting tool that works with Nuix Workstation to extract and validate Bitcoin addresses from any indexed data. This solution enabled the Unit to scan millions of items per hour from sources like mobile devices and cloud storage, quickly identify leads, and connect Bitcoin addresses to suspects. In one recent case, this process led to the recovery of some of the stolen currency.
