Financial Institution Gains Vital Visibility into Private Data with Nuix Sensitive Data Finder

Large Financial Institution was concerned about personally identifiable information (PII), especially Social Security numbers, stored in unsecured locations across its network. As a long-time client, the Large Financial Institution engaged Nuix and deployed Nuix Sensitive Data Finder to locate PII and inform remediation and information-governance policy decisions.

Nuix directed Sensitive Data Finder at the firm’s riskiest file shares (about eight terabytes) and later at 10 TB of legacy email, using out-of-the-box named-entity regexes so results began appearing within minutes. Nuix found roughly 1–2 documents containing Social Security numbers per 1,000 reviewed (predominantly Word and Excel), giving the Large Financial Institution measurable exposure metrics, the ability to start remediation and policy work, and a basis to pursue further searches for critical intellectual property.
