Major US Transportation Agency was facing analysis paralysis while planning an enterprise content and records management (ECRM) migration to Microsoft SharePoint—decisions stalled over hardware, configurations, add‑ons, site design, content types, metadata and security. The agency engaged Nuix and used Nuix’s information governance and data‑analysis software to inventory and analyze two decades of file‑share content and determine what should and could realistically be migrated.

Nuix implemented a nine‑step approach—analyzing file shares, quantifying growth and effort, classifying content and metadata, purging out‑of‑scope records, fixing file ownership issues, and grouping content for migration—so the Major US Transportation Agency could make fact‑based decisions and prioritize migrations. The work revealed only 41% of content was suitable for SharePoint (avoiding excessive storage costs), enabled targeted purging and metadata enrichment to populate the migration tool, and provided ongoing Nuix indexes and metrics to track migration accuracy and progress.
