BBVA, a global bank operating in 31 countries with €638 billion in assets and nearly 109,000 employees, faced siloed infrastructure and slow, inflexible IT that limited agility, speed and scalability. To modernize securely within strict financial regulations, BBVA chose an OpenStack-based private cloud (OpenStack Icehouse) with help from Red Hat and integrated networking and security capabilities from Nuage Networks.

Nuage Networks provided SDN integration and a global policy framework (via a Neutron plugin and REST APIs) while BBVA deployed Red Hat OpenStack (KVM), Foreman and Puppet for automation. The combined solution delivered a multi-tenant private cloud with efficient, granular security, automated deployments, hypervisor-agnostic networking and near real-time provisioning — improving agility, speed and scalability and enabling automated, multi-cloud application delivery.
