Case Study: Japan Post achieves faster, data-driven Vietnam postal operations with NTT Communications

A NTT Communications Case Study

Preview of the Japan Post Case Study

Supporting better postal service in Vietnam through hands-on consulting and big data analysis

Japan Post Co., Ltd., which operates roughly 24,000 post offices across Japan, partnered with Vietnam Post under a 2015 memorandum to export its postal operations know-how. Field studies in Vietnam revealed major operational problems—piled-up undelivered packages, unused sorting machines and delivery delays driven by rapid e-commerce growth—while Japan Post also needed a global vendor able to provide integrated IT, network and BI capabilities to handle massive tracking data and enable Vietnam Post to operate autonomously.

Working with NTT Com, Japan Post migrated Vietnam’s tracking database to Enterprise Cloud and deployed a cloud-based BI system to visualize and analyze delivery speed. NTT Com’s one-stop infrastructure and local data-center presence enabled on-site support and scalable processing; Vietnam Post will take over system operation after knowledge transfer. The solution has improved planning and logistics allocation, increased expected customer satisfaction, and is projected to cut transit time between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from six days to four, with the platform ready to be applied to other countries.
