Case Study: Honda Motor Co., Ltd. speeds global CAD collaboration and cuts data transfer costs 30% with NTT Communications

A NTT Communications Case Study

Preview of the Honda Case Study

Integrated Infrastructure Effortlessly Links Honda and Global Suppliers Smooth Transfer of Large CAD Data

Honda, a global automaker, faced slow, inconsistent collaboration with tens of thousands of suppliers because large 3D CAD files were exchanged by regionally varied methods (including mail), slowing product development and weakening supplier flexibility—an issue made urgent by supply disruptions from natural disasters.

Working with NTT Communications, Honda built the Global Supplier Network using Enterprise Cloud and Biz Storage File Transfer across global datacenters and a backbone network that routes users to the nearest site. The system sped transfers, improved security and reliability (with auto-restart and flexible encryption), enabled unified supplier management, cut total data-transfer costs by about 30%, and is being expanded to support thousands more suppliers to accelerate development, procurement, and production.
