Viaplay and Npaw Partner to Build A Next-generation M-cdn Balancing Tool for Video Streaming

Viaplay, the European online video streaming service, was looking for a more flexible multi-CDN load balancing solution to improve content delivery and control costs as it expanded internationally. The company had already been using NPAW’s CDN Balancer, but needed a more resilient, real-time tool tailored to video streaming, with balancing decisions based on end-user experience and business requirements.

NPAW worked with Viaplay to enhance CDN Balancer into an API-based M-CDN selector that uses real-time quality of experience data to switch between CDNs based on regional needs, service-level agreements, content type, and other rules. As a result, Viaplay improved CDN utilization, gained a highly resilient delivery system, optimized for quality and cost, and reduced peak traffic costs and overage billing while delivering a better viewing experience.
