Great North Run faced the challenge of turning massive spectator and online interest into real-time crowd engagement across the course and at the finish line. NowSignage was brought in with its EventBeat social-media signage solution to aggregate and moderate hashtags and mentions (including #GNRMillion, #greatnorthrun and @gnr) pre-, during and post-race and feed curated content to event screens.
NowSignage’s EventBeat streamed moderated tweets and images to a mammoth LED finish-line screen, encouraging runners during the race and allowing finishers to see medal photos live. The campaign generated major social volume — 21,531 tweets with #GNRMillion, 18,469 uses of #greatnorthrun and 17,421 #gnr posts — and NowSignage published 1,017 curated comments and images (396 comments, 312 image+comment posts, 309 image slides), significantly boosting on-site and remote engagement.
