Case Study: Machine Vision Company achieves rapid 3D profiling with NOVO Engineering’s optomechanical sensor design

A NOVO Engineering Case Study

Machine Vision Company reduces mechanical BOM cost by 40% with NOVO Engineering

A machine vision company selected NOVO Engineering to provide the optomechanical engineering for their next-generation 3D laser displacement sensor. The challenge was to develop a rigid and thermally stable housing that could precisely align a laser source, optics, and an image sensor to generate accurate 3D surface models.

NOVO Engineering designed a rigid cast-aluminum chassis and developed proprietary methods for alignment and manufacturing, including custom fixtures and assembly tools. Their solution resulted in three U.S. utility patents. As a follow-on project, NOVO reduced the mechanical bill of materials cost by approximately 40%. The vendor collaborated closely with the client throughout the multi-year project to produce prototypes, perform verification testing, and generate production documentation.
