General Mills Backs up a Global Enterprise with NovaStor

General Mills, a global consumer foods company with $12.3 billion in annual net sales, needed constant data availability and a high‑performance, scalable backup solution to support rapidly growing SAP and non‑SAP environments and a large HP9000 infrastructure. To meet those demands they selected NovaStor and deployed NovaStor DataCenter to fully leverage their disk and tape storage hardware and minimize downtime.

NovaStor implemented NovaStor DataCenter across General Mills’ data center, automating backups and pre/post processes and scaling to back up more than 16 TB per day (creating ~130 LTO‑I cartridges daily) and more than 2.5 TB from a single server in five hours including verification. The solution sustains ~25 MB/sec per tape drive (aggregate >300 MB/sec with 13 drives) and 30 MB/sec verify speeds, delivering faster restores, lower backup/restore costs, optimal hardware utilization and continuous data availability.
