A Northwoods Case Study
Mesa County Department of Human Services faced significant challenges as its child welfare caseworkers struggled with an outdated electronic filing system. The previous system lacked mobile access, making it difficult to retrieve case history and complete forms, and it could not keep up with complex cases. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced an abrupt transition to telework, these limitations threatened the agency's ability to provide continuous services to families. The department partnered with Northwoods and implemented its Traverse software to address these issues.
Northwoods' solution, Traverse, is a cloud-based electronic case file system that integrates with the state's management system. It provided caseworkers with mobile access to complete case files and digital forms from any location, enabling them to work effectively from home during the pandemic. The solution allowed workers to quickly search for information and complete referrals, saving hours of time per case. This efficiency helped caseworkers better connect with families, make more informed safety decisions, and ultimately achieve permanency faster, all without interrupting services during the shutdown.
