Lenoir County Cuts Child Welfare Turnover by 77% with Document Management

Lenoir County Department of Social Services’ Child Welfare team was overwhelmed by manual, paper-based documentation that ate into time with families, made it hard to access case information in the field, and contributed to high social worker burnout and a 73% turnover rate. The county also struggled to meet case initiation and closure timeframes and needed better supervision and collaboration in the office and on visits.

Northwoods implemented its Compass document management solutions, including Compass Pilot in the office and Compass CoPilot in the field, to digitize case files, streamline forms, and give social workers and supervisors real-time access to documentation. The result was a 77% reduction in turnover, turnaround improvements such as cases closing about two weeks earlier, up to 3 hours saved per worker per day on documentation, and case initiation rates rising from 80-85% to 97%, above the 95% state standard.
