Hitachi Rail needed a way to track scope 3 emissions across more than 10,000 active suppliers, but the volume of transactional data and the challenge of mapping the right emission factors made the task extremely complex. To tackle this, Hitachi Rail worked with Normative and its digital tools and automation capabilities to bring greater structure and accuracy to its carbon data.

With Normative, Hitachi Rail was able to consolidate and analyze its supplier data efficiently, transforming scope 3 reporting from an estimated 10–13% coverage to over 90% of total emissions. The improved data quality and granularity gave Hitachi Rail a much stronger foundation for targeted supply chain decarbonization strategies and reinforced its environmental leadership.
