Social Security Scotland, an executive agency of the Scottish Government, faced rising AWS cloud costs and a lack of visibility into spending as their environment scaled. They partnered with Nordcloud and IBM Consulting to implement a FinOps operating model to gain cost transparency and establish accountability for cloud consumption across teams.

Nordcloud, in partnership with IBM, defined the FinOps strategy and operating model, supported engineering efforts, and deployed the IBM Cloudability platform. This transformation resulted in a 36% drop in core business cloud costs and a 30.4% reduction in overall cloud spend within the first year. The project achieved a 390% ROI in just 18 months, exceeding three-year targets and saving millions through optimized usage.
