Preview of the Sanoma Case Study

Creating a tailored cloud infrastructure to expedite growth for Sanoma Games

Sanoma, a diversified media group based in Helsinki, needed to support the rapid growth of its Sanoma Games unit as it expanded into new markets and gaming categories. To replace its own datacentre, Sanoma turned to Nordcloud to design a flexible cloud infrastructure that could handle resource-intensive applications with dramatic traffic swings while still supporting legacy software and modern web development needs, using AWS services.

Nordcloud implemented an AWS-based solution for Sanoma Games, centered on Amazon S3 for static content, Amazon EC2 with Auto Scaling for variable compute demand, and Amazon RDS with Read Replicas across multiple Availability Zones for the core database layer. Nordcloud also used Amazon ElastiCache, CloudWatch, and Python scripts via the AWS API to improve efficiency and reduce third-party software costs. The result was a scalable, resilient, and cost-effective platform that averages about 35 AWS instances and peaks at around 50 during the Finnish hockey season, helping Sanoma Games serve millions of gamers and support continued expansion.
