Case Study: MaaS Global achieves rapid platform launch with Nordcloud

Bootstrapping the platform for a billion-dollar business opportunity

MaaS Global, a Finland-based mobility startup behind the “Whim” app, wanted to build a new transportation platform that could connect multiple third-party services such as public transit, taxis, rental cars, maps, and routing systems into one reliable digital subscription experience. Nordcloud helped them tackle the challenge of integrating many non-standard external systems while preparing the platform to scale for potentially millions of users.

Nordcloud built a microservices-based, serverless architecture on AWS using Lambda, API Gateway, a REST API, and Postgres, plus adapter services and CI with GitHub and Travis to support fast, reliable development. The result was an end-to-end taxi-ordering flow demoed to investors in just four months, followed by a Helsinki beta launch, international expansion plans, improved developer efficiency, and award-winning recognition for the Whim app.
