Smith Brothers Farms handling 10,000 daily orders efficiently

Smith Brothers Farms, a Washington-based dairy and bakery business with 52,000 active customers and roughly 10,000 daily orders, needed a modern, mobile-friendly, membership-based e-commerce site. Their requirements included geo-restricted memberships, the ability for customers to skip deliveries, USAePay recurring payments, and reliable processing of ~10,000 orders in a tight 6–9 PM window — all on a high-traffic platform built on the nopCommerce e-commerce solution.

Using nopCommerce (implemented by Irvine Software Company), the team leveraged built-in features like ACL, product/category management and caching, then customized key areas: standing orders via enhanced wishlists, extended caching, moving email processing to a console app, and extracting order logic into a DLL with CLR plus SQL stored procedures and scheduled jobs to process 10,000 orders in minutes. The nopCommerce-based solution also added a responsive mobile site; as a result, site performance and UX improved markedly, orders are processed within a few minutes, and Smith Brothers Farms now gains about 30–40 new members daily.
